Sergeant Detective Rafael Antunez is a 27-year veteran of the Boston Police Department. He is currently assigned to the Boston Police Academy as a Staff Instructor where he oversees  departmental training, specifically he leads Detective Training at the Academy. Prior to his current assignment, he served as an investigator in the Internal Affairs Division and as a Patrol Sergeant in Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood.

Before his promotion to Sergeant, Sergeant Detective Antunez spent 11 years as a Boston Police Detective. He worked in the Sexual Assault Unit, Recruit Investigations Unit, Boston Regional  Intelligence Center (BRIC), and the Homicide Unit. As a Police Officer, he worked in District D-4 and the Drug Control unit. Prior to joining the Boston Police Department, he served 5 years with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy Sheriff.

In addition to being a Boston Police Academy Instructor, Sergeant Detective Antunez is an MPTC Certified Instructor, is fluent in Spanish, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Curry College where he is a member of the Alexander Graham Bell Honor Society.
