Detective Lieutenant Meaghan Cunningham is a 14-year veteran of the Barnstable Police Department in Massachusetts.  She started her career in 2003 at the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department where she worked for 5 years.  Detective Lieutenant Cunningham specializes in sexual assault and domestic violence investigations along with investigating violent crimes.

Detective Lieutenant Cunningham is currently assigned as the Investigative Services Commander where she oversees all cases involving violent crime in addition to supervising and overseeing all sexual assault investigations.  Detective Lieutenant Cunningham has investigated and or supervised over 500 sexual assault investigations involving adults and children.  Her investigative experience on her cases has resulted in over 130 years of convictions at the state and federal level.   Lieutenant Cunningham is an active member of the Children’s Cove Advisory Committee, Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children Working Group and the Multi-Disciplinary Team.  Detective Lieutenant Cunningham has been teaching for academy recruits since 2021 and has instructed over 200 officers.  Lieutenant Cunningham holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Southern New Hampshire University.
