Costly ADA Mistakes You Should Avoid – 3 Powerful Tips!

Disability discrimination accounts for some of the most commonly filed claims before the EEOC and the MCAD. As a result, it is important for any public safety manager to be aware of how to successfully navigate the pitfalls of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This class will explore three overarching tips in order to minimize disability discrimination liability. Most importantly, it will provide attendees with practical ways to approach common disability-related scenarios faced by all public safety managers. The focus of this training will be on determining levels of protection afforded to employees under the ADA, exploring what types of medical-related tests and inquiries can be used, and practical guidance on how to engage in the reasonable accommodation analysis.

  • The training will begin on 1/26/21 at 9:00 a.m. and run until approximately 12:00 noon. There will be short (5 minute) breaks throughout this session.
  • The training will be held using Zoom, an online platform used to facilitate video conferences. In order to access the training, you will be provided with a link at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Eric Atstupenas will be conducting the training in a live & recorded format. What this means is that the training modules will be pre-recorded, but that Eric will be watching along with you during each module. During that time, since Eric is not actively speaking, he can engage with attendees using the chat feature in order to answer questions and poll the audience on certain issues. He may address certain questions on chat, and leave other questions to be answered later. After the end of each module, Eric will appear live to answer questions related to that particular module.
  • At the conclusion of the training, you will be provided with the slides, any other resources discussed during the presentation, a copy of the Guide to Disability Discrimination for Public Safety Management and a certificate of completion.
