Overview

In this self-paced on-demand training, students will become familiar with management rights for public safety personnel in Massachusetts.  It is important for public employers and managers to understand the contours of the Massachusetts Collective Bargaining Law, along with management rights, and to recognize what issues require union involvement and what actions are required in such instances.

Students will:

  • Gain a basic understanding of the sources of management rights
  • Gain a basic understanding of good faith bargaining
  • Learn about specific inherent managerial prerogatives, including the right to assign, promote, and appoint
  • Understand the inherent managerial prerogative of minimum staffing
  • Learn about special considerations for public safety employees
