Overview

In this self-paced on-demand training, students will become familiar with labor relations for public safety personnel in Massachusetts.  The Massachusetts Collective Bargaining Law provides public employees with collective bargaining rights.  It is important for public employers and managers to understand the contours of the Law and how to operate within its boundaries to effectively manage public safety employees.

Students will:

  • Learn about union representation and the bargaining unit
  • Gain a basic understanding of good faith bargaining
  • Learn what constitutes violations of the Law
  • Understand special considerations for public safety employees
  • Gain a basic understanding of the sources of management rights
