COURSE DESCRIPTION

The new format of this course involves exposure to multiple crime scenes.  This soup-to-nuts 3 day (24 hour) hands-on crime scene class will cover basic approach, preservation methods, documentation procedures, basic and advanced processing techniques as well as final evidence reporting and presentation of findings.  This will be a highly intense course that will challenge the officer’s/detective’s ability to handle the scene from response to report.  The goal is to equip the student with the fundamental evidentiary knowledge of crime scene investigation techniques and gain mastery of the techniques necessary to obtain latent impressions, blood and bio collection, and preparation for submission to AFIS, DNA, drug and firearms/ballistics lab analysis.

PREREQUISITE:

This is a follow-up course to the Breaking and Entering Evidence Recovery (BEER) course, which builds on the officer/detective’s skills to successfully process scenes that they most commonly encounter.  Basic or Advanced Photography course and the evidentiary photography course are also helpful.  Students should have general working knowledge of their cameras.  Cameras can be point and shoot or DSLR.

REQUIREMENTS:

Students should bring cameras and any crime scene processing kits and tools assigned to their unit.

Students will be supplied with ninhydrin/dye stain and all written materials and worksheets.
