The effective recruiting, developing, and managing of confidential informants can be one of the greatest abilities and skills an investigator can possess. Confidential informants can be a great asset that brings a world of value to a unit or organization. Confidential informants can be extremely unpredictable and volatile and present many ethical challenges and liability concerns for an officer and/or their respective agency.
Officers will learn when to use informants, how to use them, and also best practices in documenting and implementing policies and guidelines that maintain officer safety and hold CIs accountable. The information and skills provided in this class will also assist officers and agencies with effectively mitigating the inherent risk and liability that comes along with working with and utilizing confidential informants.
