Day 1

  • Management Rights (6 hours)
    The purpose of this seminar is to provide Command Staff from Massachusetts with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead their respective organizations and implement changes within the framework of the law. Management Rights, Assignment, Past Practice, Work Rules, Avoiding Unilateral Changes in Working Conditions, Impact Bargaining, what is a Work Rule? Mid-term bargaining, Chief Right to Assign, Forced Overtime, Truthfulness Required and Documenting to win.

Day 2

  • Internal Affairs for Command Staff (6 hours)
    Instructions on the duties, responsibilities and essential functions of a Police Sergeant.  Holding subordinates accountable and coaching them in the right direction.  Setting clear and concise expectations.  2 Hour Block

Day 3

  • Building Public Trust and Police Legitimacy through honesty, truthfulness, integrity, and transparency (6 hours)The purpose of this seminar is to provide Command Staff from Massachusetts with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead a Police Organization through the effective establishment and enforcement of ethical and professional standards. Participants will be provided with case law and the tools and skills necessary to set clear and concise behavioral expectations and requirements.Although behavioral guidelines and expectations in the law enforcement profession appear to be common sense, the strict enforcement and repeated verbalization by leadership and supervisory staff will help enforce the required and expected results. The understanding that there will be consequences for violating the integrity requirements of the profession must be a well vocalized and established behavioral requirement.

Day 4

  • Strategies for Dealing with difficult union relationships (6 hours)The purpose of this seminar is to provide Command Staff from Massachusetts with the knowledge and skills necessary to run their organization effectively and efficiently by supplying them with information necessary and the latest legal updates to deal effectively with difficult unions or union leaders.Bargaining strategies and proper planning based on established case law and effective management rights practices will be discussed. Implementing work rules and developing a workable strategy to implement change in your organization will be discussed and fully explored.

Day 5

  • Developing an ‘Accountable Organization’ (4 hours)The purpose of this training is to provide Law Enforcement Command Staff from Massachusetts with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to effectively direct and control their subordinates in accountable method by using policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and written directives to establish discipline and accountability in their organization.Establishing accountability through an effective written directive system and using established accountability tools to direct and control your supervisory staff will be the focus of this training.
